I appreciate that you know you can't "hook it up to his brain," but I'd like to see what blueprints you have in mind for the "metal parts" before you make it. I planned for titanium on the outside for durability and lightweight work, but aluminum for the inside since we'll need conductivity for the wires. Additionally, I intended on giving him full individual finger support, since that's not what he has right now. Do your plans account for that?
[ Oh, this is what Robert meant by her having fun with him. Toph really just can't resist. ]
I'm blind, so the plans don't include any blueprints, that's for sure. [ Innocently: ] There's different kinds of metal? I was just going to smoosh some scrap together and hope it worked.
I told him we needed to be sure of your experience level before we went into a project like this. This is more careless than he usually is...
Anyway, I've heard you're good with spacial awareness and something called "earth bending," which is great! But what we're going to need is a lot of very small, intricate work. Even the outer shell of the arm needs to be carefully detailed. What's the last metal project you worked on?
[ Toph is a veteran troll but this is painful even to her. She could try to keep it up, but out of mercy she starts laying on the bright sarcasm as thick as she can. ]
I made my own trolley car to go super fast on the tracks. But that's so big, I guess that doesn't count as detail work...
[ Maybe this sounds like Toph is going to take thirty minutes to get there, but it actually means she's backing up far enough down the tracks to build up real speed coming up to the Alcyone's Wake stop, while also making sure she's ducking the real trolley so she doesn't cause an accident.
She needs to stage her grand entrance perfectly. ]
[ From the distance, a sleek metal train car comes rocketing up the tracks. There's no engine attached to it anywhere or a discernible door, and the windows are empty, making the car open to the air.
It goes extremely fast. Metalbending something forward on rails is trivially easy for Toph, who can already go quite fast on her own just on the ground itself. She slows the car down gradually and comes to a graceful, easy halt, smooth as silk, in front of the train stop.
A panel on the side lifts up as one whole piece, without hinges, Toph pushing it up above her head. The tiny barefoot girl emerges, affecting casual ease. ]

Did you tell Robert you could make him an arm?
no subject
Yeah, basically. I said I could handle all the metal parts if he found somebody to do the part where it gets hooked up to his brain.

[He repeats, and thankfully because it's just audio, it's not apparent he's running his hand over his face.]
Don't know why Robert wouldn't have told me that from the jump, other than he's fucking with me.
[Which is very likely.]
Forgive me for asking, but- you sound... young. How old are you?

Could you teach me how to make an arm, mister?
no subject
I'd definitely prefer to help teach you how to do it than have you work on it entirely alone.
[For selfish reasons in the sense he'd rather not have to unfuck an arm that won't work with the delicate intricacies and wires he planned on using.]
I'd also prefer to have a blueprint, but... we can forgo that for this. No point in having one if half the designers can't read it.

That's such a relief, [ she sighs hugely. ] I was so worried about how I'd figure this out, and Doctor Sassy Ass is really depending on me!

[He's expecting it to be like, kart-sized.]

[ That'll work for busting expectations and getting him to take her seriously. ]

[He's not getting it.]

[ She smiles to herself. ]
I don't want to get there before you. It's way more impressive if you see me coming up the track.

Yo.
